What to expect

The treatment itself is non-invasive and usually profoundly relaxing, with the patient lying down fully-clothed, in a peaceful environment (other positions can be used to accommodate children, women in later stages of pregnancy and anyone else uncomfortable lying on their backs).

A very light touch is used to connect in with the system, 'listen' to the body's subtle rhythms, and identify any patterns or areas of tightness, blockage or restriction on both a physical and emotional level. Treatment works towards releasing these through enhancing the body's self-healing and regulating capabilities. Areas frequently contacted are the bones of the cranium (skull), the sacrum (tailbone) and the spine, and often clients report sensations of deep relaxation, warmth and tingling.

My treatments usually last between 1 and 1.5 hours (less for children and infants), and will involve a thorough consultation and craniosacral treatment. If relevant and appropriate, I will also include physiotherapy advice/posture re-education/exercises, as well as acupuncture. This is very much dependent on the presenting condition and the client's preferences.

Craniosacral Therapy can be of benefit to almost any condition and is suitable for all ages. In particular, it is one of the few therapies which effectively addresses many childhood conditions, including colic, ear infections and sleep related problems to name a few.
